Answers for Adults and Children in Pain

Depression and mood disorders
in children have only been recognized in the mental health community during the last 15-20 years. Most psychiatric diagnoses have been quantified by checklists, tests, and cut-off scores to provide some uniformity and common language among professionals.

Both Laurie Assadi and Andrea Deming are experienced in working with adults as well as children.

Psychological and psychiatric issues that begin in childhood may not resolve in adulthood without treatment. Often, we hear parents say "I had the same problems as a kid and still struggle today". Because the majority of mood, anxiety, and attention disorders are genetic, the importance of these same issues in adults cannot be overlooked.

Since the Clinical Center opened in 1987, we have been committed to fine tuning both our diagnostic and clinical/therapeutic skills for children, teens, and adults. Although the methods and process may differ, all deserve a clear, honest, and caring approach to help improve their emotional quality of life.

For insights in working with children Laurie offers help in her book, Waking From the Nightmare: Giving Our Children Optimism  (purchase a copy) where she explains and explores both the heart and the brain of the child with Depression.  Unlike any other, this book explains the often confusing and disturbing behavior of the child who is angry, argumentative, and self-defeating.  Reading this work will give any parent, teacher, or professional a new understanding of children and new hope for their future..
